We are a highly successful swimming club based at Kingswood Leisure Centre, South Gloucestershire with swimmers competing from novice through to National level. The club was formed in 1962 and is affiliated to the ASA South West and Gloucester County ASA. We have held Swim21 Accreditation since April 2006 and been awarded Sport England's Clubmark. We are recognised as a safe, effective, friendly sports club that is committed to the athlete.
We aim to promote swimming within the area by providing the best structured teaching & competitive training 'Programme'. All of our swimmers are encouraged to fulfill their swimming potential by following our LTAD (long term athlete development) squad structure. We also run a thriving learn-to-swim with lessons on a Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. All of our members are valued and encouraged to work together to achieve their goals in a fun and caring environment.
Big Impact By Club At ASA South West Youth Championships
10 swimmers from Soundwell Swimming Club took part in the recent South West Youth Championships held at Plymouth Life Centre.
Seventeen-year-old James Dawe posted a huge life time best in the 50 metres freestyle (24.49) to secure 4th place overall and his first National qualification time. Dawe also recorded personal bests in all of his other events. Seventeen-year-old Will Harrison was in record breaking form as he hit five out of five personal best times, achieved two silver medals and one bronze. Harrison added the 200 and 400 metre individual medleys to his list of events qualified for at this summer’s National championships.
Along with James and Will, seventeen-year-old Bea Reed combined with County swimmers from Cheltenham, Cinderford, Gloucester and Lydney to challenge the best relay teams from the West Country. Joint seventh for the Gloucestershire County girls in the 4x100 metres medley should see them qualify for Nationals. Bea recorded a time of 1.09.46 for 100m backstroke. This gave her the confidence to hold good form in all other events over May bank holiday. A season’s best in the 200m backstroke saw her finish in 4th place. James Dawe joined by Jake Micheals (Gloucester City), Warren Cannon (Cheltenham Swimming & Waterpolo) and Jacob Salisbury (Lydney) stormed home in 3.41.18 in the male fifteen – eighteen years 4x100 metres freestyle team. Finishing in third position, the boys beat the majority of the South West’s larger clubs and finished just behind National champions Plymouth Leander. The 4x100 metres medley team which included Will Harrison, Dawe, Cannon and Dean Embling (Cindeford) was just as successful. A brilliant time of 4.01.98 will definitely see both male teams qualify for National relays.
Sixteen-year-old Jake Bayly was another Soundwell swimmer in fine form. Jake swam within one second of both his individual 100 and 200 metre National backstroke times. He rounded off his weekend with a four second PB in the gruelling 400 metres individual medley. This was good enough to collect another Bronze medal for the club.
Further finals for Soundwell Swimming Club were achieved by fifteen year olds Luke Height, Ashlee Purnell and Lauren Bryant. Superb personal bests were clocked by the trio. Likewise Connor Laughey, Jack Tyers and Will Cole.
Overall, Soundwell achieved 5 National qualifying times, took 2 Silver and 4 Bronze medals and made 16 finals. The clubs personal best strike rate was near perfect and many club and County records were broken over the course of the three day event. Head Coach Matt Puddy was delighted with the superb team performance and is now looking forward to a strong showing at the junior championships in June.
